Tips

Fins:

You should always sand the fins down, and when they are in place on the rocket, you should put at least 2 fillets of glue.

Launch Controller:

Instead of using the normal Estes controller, you can connect up a 12 volt motor bike battery, giving you instant launches every time. NOTE: Remove the bulb if you are going to use E-matches or Davey Fire igniters.

Drift reduction:

When you have a light rocket, a good idea is to cut a small hole about a 4 cm in diameter (1.5 inches). Doing this will reduce drag, therefore you will stand more of a chance getting it back.

Painting:

You should always allow the paint to dry for at least 1 hour before you put the second coat on.

Parachutes:

When the weather is very hot or very cold, it is a good idea to dust the parachute with talcum powder. This then allows the parachute to open properly.

Launch Lug:

You should ensure that the launch lug is firmly glued into place, and a good idea is to cover it in PVA. This will make it stronger and more resilient. Another thing you should do is put 1 or 2 fillets of glue on the launch lug to give it extra hold.
