Canterbury Cup
On Sunday 4th August, I set off to Canterbury, Kent with the hope of launching my newly built 8.5 ft long rocket. After a 2 hour trip, I arrived to dull grey skies and after about 10 minutes it started to rain. Nonetheless I went to Pete and bought an H110 reload and a Rowes retainer. After prepping the rocket with the help of Ziggy Klynoski, I waited for the weather to clear up, and surprisingly I didn't have to wait very long, because within 45 minutes or so the clouds broke to reveal glorious sunshine. So I got the rocket set up, waited for clearance and then the countdown 5...4...3...2...1...0 Whoosh as the rocket slowly lifted off the pad, it slowed down quickly after burnout and the 10 second delay was a bit too close for comfort. Then as it ejected , disaster, the Kevlar broke free of the elastic and the body went whistling into the ground at which point all 4 fins shot out at the same time. Not very good. I had also bought along my newly finished Patriot and was eager to fly that, well guess what happened, no it didn't crash into the ground, worse and more dangerous, it launched with the rod attached then created a long metal spear. After this I was fed up, and felt as though I was a safety hazard so packed up and went home.
